ray=out

ray=out subs is a non-profit, veteran and ongoing independent anime fansub group which originated during the fall of AnimeUniverse in the year of 2006. The founding members include: Doff, Ryoma-kun, regged, and YinYanX. All four of which emerged from AnimeUniverse, but do not sub any more today. Before ray=out's and/or AnimeUniverse's existence, Doff (main founder of ray=out and the current owner of the renowned AnimeNfo Radio) was a member of groups such as Shinsen-Subs and KissSub (with Ryoma-kun).

ray=out tries to enlist staff not part of several other groups, especially those that have many members like Shinsen-Subs, Menclave, or Chihiro, thus considers itself independent. Ninety percent of ray=out's core staff or over half of the total active members (depending on how you look at it) do not belong to multiple groups. ray=out tries to be independent as most groups that are related via affiliation cease operation due to internal conflicts (i.e. AnimeUniverse) or due to the lack of staff; those that don't have the founding memeber as a translator (i.e. Kyuuketsuki) or even close contact (i.e. MSN, friend in real life, location of residence, etc). That said, ray=out rarely does joints as due to past experience it breaks apart. Hence, another reason why ray=out is independent.

Gear-Fansubs was a speed-sub group originally created by alchemist11, the current leader of ray=out along with regged and the members of Utsukushii-Studio after the Translator/Founder, Saiyuki (better known as Krystia from Animanda) temporarily disappeared. This occurred during ray=out's year long hiatus at the year of 2007. Soon after, with the return of Doff and Ryoma-kun, regged proposed the merge of Gear-Fansubs and ray=out. With this, alchemist11 and his team became members of ray=out. Gear-Fansubs as a fansub group does not exist today, but the original (blogspot) website is now a place to get alchemist11's favourite asian movies with English srt/embedded subtitles. Only two people from Gear-Fansubs still fansub today, alchemist11 and AyaU3.

Gekkostate AFG is a Japanese mixed media group primarily focusing to bring high quality (HD-DVD/BD, DVD, or HD) releases. They (technically, one-man) started out as an unofficial distributor and promoter of exclusive Gaming content, either anime or original ideas. As a solo group with mostly encoders, its goal is to release exclusive gaming content, anime movies and other Japanese related media.

ray=out's goals, unlike many other fansub groups and their hindrance to "oversub," primarily focuses to subtitle under-appreciated anime. Other than that, ray=out intends to sub animes their Translators/Translation Checkers want to work on, which usually would be under-appreciated anime as well. ray=out has no such policy for dropping licensed animes. In fact, Happiness! was licensed at the time of its release and still is. ray=out is open to sub any anime (except yaoi and yuri), even upon request (i.e. Yoiko) regardless of license provided willing translators are available on the team or found later on for said project.

Yes, we do. There aren't many groups that will, but we happen to be an exception. As of 2008, alchemist11 has set-up a program Canadians (primarily residents of Toronto) and members of ray=out called LJ4A (Learning Japanese 4 All). This service provides resources as well as insider information to help learn the Japanese language with tips from current Canadian translators. In return, he ask those that become successful learning the language to help this group, at one point, with a project or two. Nothing more. Learning Japanese freely is very hard as reliable, consistent resource and time dedication is needed, thus we ensure ours are the exact same as those being taught in university, college, or private schools. The only exception to the service(s), we, at the moment don't have the resource to are 1. Encoding and 2. AFX (After Effects).

One word: Love. We love anime dearly. Especially those that are not loved in the subbing community, non-Japanese community, or in general. A lot of people have spent a lot of time and hard work making the product hoping the audience is satisfied and appreciates the end result. Our goal in subbing is the same. We want to be known for the same reason spending our time working on an anime for audience that appreciates the end result that, not only we have brought to the community, but from the makers as well. Our goal will always be to work on under-appreciated anime and we hope we can continue to bring it to others. To ensure that goal, that ideal, that love for anime, we need dedicated people that can maintain to help us attain it.
